How It Works

It uses powerful mechanical force, specialized tooling, and often a powered assist table to overcome the high bead strength of truck tires. Key actions include:

• Bead Breaking: A heavy vertical or horizontal arm with a blunt tool forcefully breaks the tire’s bead away from the rim flange.
• Bead Manipulation: Powered rollers or a swing arm lift and maneuver the stiff bead over the rim edge during dismounting and mounting.
• Table Functions: A motorized, rotating table spins the assembly while a specialized “duckhead” or roller tool works the bead on or off.

Critical Safety & Operational Rules

• Secure the Assembly: The wheel must be clamped firmly to the rotating table with the correct cone/plate before any operation. A loose assembly is a deadly projectile.
• Deflate Completely & De-bead: Ensure the tire is fully deflated and the bead is completely broken from the rim on both sides before attempting demounting.
• Use Truck-Specific Tooling: Never use passenger car tooling. Use the correct duckhead, bead roller, and rim protectors designed for truck tire diameters and sidewall stiffness.
• Lubricate Generously: Apply tire mounting lubricant to both beads and rim edges to reduce friction and prevent bead/wire damage.
• Hands-Free Operation: Use the machine’s controls and tools. Never place hands or fingers between the tire bead and rim during the mount/demount cycle.
• Multi-Piece Rim EXTREME DANGER: Understand the specific lock ring/demount procedure. Never service a multi-piece rim without proper training. A misassembled lock ring can explode with lethal force during inflation.
• Inflate in a Safety Cage: ALWAYS inflate a newly mounted heavy-duty tire inside a reinforced tire inflation safety cage with an extension hose and clip-on chuck. This is non-negotiable.
