Engine Jack

A heavy-duty, mobile lifting frame used to remove, install, and reposition an engine and transmission assembly in a vehicle. It is the primary tool for major powertrain work.

How It Works

It uses a hydraulic ram to lift a pivoting boom arm via a chain or strap. This provides the mechanical advantage to hoist the engine’s weight. The jack is mounted on casters, allowing the entire assembly to be rolled out from the engine bay.

Critical Safety & Operating Rules

• Capacity is Absolute: Never exceed the rated capacity. Include the weight of the transmission, fluids, and all accessories.
• Secure the Load: Use the engine’s manufacturer-provided lifting points with proper bolts or a suitable, rated engine sling. Attach a load leveler for safe tilting.
• Center of Gravity is Key: Position the engine’s weight as close to the crane’s vertical post as possible. Extend the boom minimally.
• Stability First: Ensure the crane is on a clean, level, solid floor. Keep legs fully extended and locked. Never move the crane with the load raised high.
• Check for Clearance: Slowly lift and maneuver, ensuring the engine clears the radiator, wiring, and body panels.
• Use Jack Stands: Once the engine is out, lower it onto a stable engine stand or secured cribbing, do not leave it suspended on the crane.
• Inspect the Tool: Check hydraulic fittings, chain links, and casters for damage before each major lift.
